Some Things Are Truly Priceless
We use money every day to pay for the things we need and enjoy. Nearly everything has a price, but the most important gift you could ever receive cannot be bought with money.
The Bible tells us that eternal life is a gift from God. It is not a reward for being religious, generous, or better than someone else. It cannot be purchased with money or earned through good works.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Although salvation is freely offered to us, it was not without cost. Jesus Christ paid its price when He gave His life upon the cross. He took the punishment our sin deserved so that we could be forgiven and receive eternal life.
Before we can receive this gift, however, we must understand why we need it. The Bible begins by showing us the truth about our sin and our standing before God.
The greatest gift begins with recognizing our greatest need.
How Can You Receive God’s Gift?
The Bible gives a clear answer. We must first recognize our sin, understand its penalty, and place our faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Realize You Are a Sinner
God is holy, and every one of us has broken His law. Our sins may not all look the same, but none of us has met God’s perfect standard. Before we can receive salvation, we must first be honest with God about our sinful condition.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23
Understand Sin’s Penalty
Sin separates us from God, and its rightful penalty is death. Money, good works, religion, generosity, or better behavior cannot remove our guilt. We owe a debt that we cannot pay ourselves.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Believe Christ Paid the Price
God did not leave us without hope. Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, willingly took our place upon the cross. He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. He paid the debt we could never pay.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Receive Salvation by Faith
A gift is not earned; it is received. Salvation becomes yours when you turn to Jesus Christ and trust Him alone to forgive your sin and save you. It is entirely by God’s grace, not by anything you can do for yourself.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8–9
God’s gift is offered to you
Call Upon the Lord
Salvation is not found in repeating special words or performing a religious ceremony. It is a matter of placing your faith in Jesus Christ. Come to Him honestly, admitting your sin and trusting completely in His death, burial, and resurrection as the only payment for your salvation.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
